Chili-Less (Sweet) Chili
This is a crockpot recipe and is useful for folks off at work (or school) all day who want to have dinner ready when they get home. Serves 4.
Directions:
- Brown the meat and drain off the fat.
- Put meat and all other ingredients in a crockpot and cook all day (approximately 6-8 hours) on low heat. Stir now and then if possible.
- Serve with crackers or toasted garlic bread.
Excursions:
- Before adding ingredients or turning on heat, coat inside of crockpot lightly with cooking spray to help prevent sticking.
- Substitute ground turkey and/or pork sausage for some or all of the ground beef. Pork sausage adds a good blend of spices without having to use chili powder.
- Substitute a quart of home-canned tomatoes for the crushed tomatoes.
- Add 1 large sweet green (bell) pepper, seeded & diced.
