Welcome to the Statistics Stairwell
We use the book titled The Practice of Statistics, 3rd Edition, by Daniel S. Yates, David S. Moore, and Daren S. Starnes (the "YMS Book") as our text.
Are you a prospective student trying to decide whether to take Statistics or Calculus at MSHS next school year? Then let "The 21st Century Bard" (a.k.a., Kim Headlee, my wife) help you in her terrific take-off on Hamlet's famous soliloquy, "To C or Not to C" (Word document; 29K). It's a little bit dated due to changes in my teaching duties, but I think you'll enjoy it.
Currently this statistics course qualifies for dual credit at Wytheville Community College (MTH 241 and 242, 6 credit hours), and it is also taught as AP Statistics. The student note files are Microsoft Word files with imbeded Powerpoint graphics. The lessons that go along with those notes are Powerpoint slides, and links to those chapters follow. I have noted the file sizes beside them for those who still must use dial-up connections. Any suggestions or comments are always welcome.
Prior years' offerings of this class at MSHS have used the 2nd edition of the book by Michael Sullivan titled Statistics, Informed Decisions Using Data (the "Sullivan book"). These lessons and notes files are still available by entering the "stairwell" here. The Sullivan book's chapters and, at times, individual lessons are hyperlinked within the YMS book materials for additional reference as appropriate.
