Chili-Cheeseburgers
Growing up, my siblings & I called these "gooshy-burgers," or Sloppy Joes With Attitude. At the time, we kids couldn't fully appreciate how easy this dish is to make, serve, and freeze for a later meal.
Serves 4-6.
Directions:
- Brown the meat & onions, and drain off the fat
- Put meat/onion mixture in a Dutch Oven (large pot) and stir in soup and chili powder until well blended.
- Cook 5-10 minutes over Medium heat, until mixture is steaming hot.
- Turn off heat, and quickly stir in cheese until it melts.
- Serve over open-faced buns.
Excursions:
- Before adding ingredients or turning on heat, coat inside of your frying pan lightly with cooking spray to help prevent sticking.
- Substitute ground turkey and/or pork sausage for ground beef. Sometimes we use all three.
- Add one 4-ounce can of mild green chiles when browning meat & onions, after meat is mostly done.
- Substitute different cheeses, such as Colby, Pepper Jack, or Monterey Jack.
